General Information
No one gets to the Moon alone.
Or anywhere else in space, for that matter.
It takes a massive amount of technology support to help scientists create rovers capable of sniffing out our cosmos. At NASA Goddard, it's the Information Technology and Communications Directorate (ITCD) team that provides a full range of IT services and capabilities – including desktop support, application development, collaboration tools, network engineering, and cybersecurity – so center scientists can focus on their missions.
Each year, ITCD hosts the Goddard Cybersecurity Expo at their secure facility to discuss cybersecurity and technology. You'll want to be there – the event has had a great, lengthy history in terms of both attendees and interest level:
- The audience is very engaged in all sessions and in the expo.
- In 2019, there were over 200 attendees (all NASA Goddard employees).
- The CIO (chief adviser to the Goddard center director for IT strategy, planning, and IT service provisioning) and CISO always walk around to speak with vendors.
- There are 3-4 speaking sessions coordinated for the auditorium in building #8 (please submit an abstract - information will be available in August 2019.).
- The event has a unique setup that encourages constant interaction with attendees and allows Industry exhibitors to enjoy the sessions.
- This event is promoted to all NASA Cyber and IT-focused personnel, as well as the entire workforce at this location.
Exhibition spots sold out for the last event– so register early!
If you have IT products or services that fall into the areas of capability, cybersecurity, and sustainability, this is a not-to-be-missed event. Put your brand in front of the professionals working behind the scenes to make our next interplanetary mission possible. Register now.
NASA Goddard IT Overview
The NASA Goddard IT team brokers enterprise services from the agency to provide efficient and cost-effective solutions and extends those services with local solutions to meet the unique requirements of the center’s science missions. NASA Goddard's IT can be divided into three major areas: capability, cybersecurity, and sustainability.
- IT Capability: Enabling Goddard Science and Technology - Goddard manages and operates the IT services that the center’s workforce relies on every day: networks, telephones, video communications, custom software applications, and desktop and computing services. As part of NASA’s Communications Services Office, Goddard also plays a lead role in the agency’s mission network infrastructure. Goddard’s IT service delivery priorities are to ensure that the center’s IT infrastructure and application capabilities and services continue to meet evolving stakeholder needs and enable mission success.
- Cybersecurity: Securing Goddard Science Data and Assets - Information security is fundamental to ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Goddard’s critical scientific and institutional data and IT assets. Goddard’s cybersecurity priority is to enhance and integrate information security throughout the system life cycle, ensuring that Goddard’s data and information are protected from cyber-attack. Goddard uses a risk-based approach to information security management, which balances the appropriate level of security the need to integrate emerging technologies to allow scientific collaboration and achieve mission success.
- IT Sustainability: Optimizing Support for Goddard Science - The last major priority for IT at Goddard is to enable Goddard missions and science through innovative, sustainable, and transparent support and effective IT planning, enterprise architecture, and IT governance.

The last major priority for IT at Goddard is to enable Goddard missions and science through:
- Innovative, sustainable and transparent support,
- Effective IT planning, enterprise architecture and IT governance.
Goddard’s unique and effective IT governance model employs representative center participation to coordinate IT strategy and oversee the center’s IT investment portfolio. Enterprise architecture creates a blueprint for the center to translate these strategies and plans into core capabilities.
