About the Social Security Administration
The Commissioner-led SSA has a staff of more than 80,000 employees. There are 13 offices, but SSA’s central office is in Baltimore, Maryland. SSA pays retirement, disability and survivor’s benefits to workers and their families, and administers the Supplemental Security Income program. In addition, they issue Social Security numbers to our Nation’s citizens.
