On April 1, 2018, Ms. Chérie A. Smith was appointed to the position of Program Executive Officer, Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS) at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. As the Program Executive Officer, Ms. Smith is responsible for managing more than 60 Department of Defense and Army acquisition programs across the business, warfighting and enterprise information missions, optimizing how the Army does business and globally connecting the Army and its mission partners.

PEO EIS consists of more than 1,500 military, civilian and contractor staff around the world
spanning 15 countries and executes approximately $3 billion annually. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Smith served as the Acting Program Executive Officer, PEO EIS, from January 2018 to March 2018 and the Deputy Program Executive Officer, PEO EIS, from October 2017 to January 2018.

Ms. Smith has over 30 years of government experience in all levels of information technology management and development. Prior to PEO EIS, she managed more than 1,200 military, civilian and contractor staff spanning 40 countries as the Deputy Program Executive Officer, PEO Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI). Prior to serving as Deputy PEO STRI, she also served as Assistant Deputy for Acquisition & Systems Management, overseeing and implementing acquisition policy for aviation, focused logistics, simulation and training, intelligence/electronic warfare and special operations force acquisition programs. Additional previous assignments include serving as the Acting Deputy Program Executive Officer, PEO Soldier, from May 2013 to January 2014; the Director for Performance Assessment and Root Cause Analysis at the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology) from September 2010 to May 2013; the Director of Forward Operations - Kuwait from August 2009 to November 2010; and the program manager for General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) at PEO EIS from May 2003 until June 2008.

Ms. Smith began her career as an enlisted Soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1977 to 1979, and served in Active Duty status in the United States Army from 1979 to 1985. She holds a bachelor's degree in business from National-Louis University and a master's degree in strategic studies from the Army War College. She is a member of the original Army Acquisition Corps and Level III certified in both Communications - Computer Systems and Program Management.
