TRACKS

Just like in past years, TechFest tracks are determined by current world trends and topics that PNNL staff members develop abstracts on. That means our carefully curated agenda is for you, by you. Most of our presentations will fall in one of these main tracks, but we do have a few sessions that, even though they are outside these topics, were too good to pass up!

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Autonomy and Automation
  • Cloud and High-Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Cyber Security
  • Research Data Management
  • Software Engineering and User Experience

PNNL 60th Highlighted Speaker

Mike Goodchild - Professor Emeritus of Geography UC Santa Barbara

Although the term geospatial is surprisingly recent, it has proven very successful at integrating tools, services, data, and systems around the central concept of where. This talk will review some of the key breakthroughs in geospatial technology, some of the legacy practices that remain centrally important, and some of the most compelling examples of social impact. Currently a number of topics occupy the cutting edge of research and development: machine learning and generative AI, digital twins, and ethics. Uncertainty has proven very difficult to address in any comprehensive way, and is likely to become more problematic as geospatial applications of AI become more universal.

TechFest Capture the Flag Cyber Security Competition

Dive into the exciting world of cybersecurity with our Capture the Flag (CTF) event, accessible to all PNNL employees. Engage with challenges designed for all skill levels, from novices to experts, running alongside TechFest for the event's duration. The event will be designed for a flexible, "go-at-your-own-pace" experience, enabling teams to come and go as they wish while fostering participation and collaboration among PNNL staff while they tackle challenges. Challenges will cover topics such as Forensics, Cryptography, Secure Web Development, and more.

Teams may consist of individuals or groups of up to 12 (virtual staff are able to join!), and the event emphasizes easy participation, allowing flags to be submitted at their own pace. Join us for a fun and engaging experience, actively supporting TechFest participation!
