Theme: Bringing Informal Language into the Classroom

The Foreign Language Program Office (FLPO) of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), and the National Cryptologic School (NCS) are pleased to announce the Teaching Colloquial Language: “Bringing Informal Language into the Classroom” Language Education and Resources Network (LEARN) workshop which will be held on Tuesday, July 12nd - Wednesday, July 13rd, at the National Foreign Language Center, Riverdale, MD.

The LEARN workshops provide foreign language professionals from U.S. Government (USG)-affiliated schools and institutions a venue to interact with their colleagues where they can:

  • discuss and explore issues related to the science and technology of foreign language education;
  • share their knowledge, experience, unique perspective, and educational best practices with peers;
  • develop networks of teachers to create communities of practices, and
  • reduce duplication of efforts in areas such as curriculum design and course development.

This LEARN Workshop is open to foreign language professionals including instructors and course developers of all foreign languages from any USG-affiliated institution. As the title suggests, the workshop is focused on topics and issues related to teaching, learning, and enhancing colloquial language skills. This topic is assuming greater importance, because students want to learn communicative skills in the real world.

Funding for any associated travel expenses will be the responsibility of each attendee's organization.
