Plamen has been working for the University of Chicago Medicine and the BSD for the past seven years. He has over sixteen years of hands-on IT experience, eight of them in Information Security. In his most recent role, Plamen served as Director of Systems and Security in the BSD's Center for Research Informatics (CRI). In his sixteen months with the CRI, Plamen significantly raised the profile and advanced the capabilities of the Systems and Security team, leading a highly successful move of all CRI computing resources from Prudential Data Center to the University's Kenwood Data Center and establishing the informatics security program. Previously, he was the Lead Data Security Engineer for the University of Chicago Medicine, leading the CBIS security operations efforts. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Plamen worked for Walgreens for seven years, where he held a variety of roles; most notably, he was responsible for perimeter defenses and security risk analysis including architecture design, network analysis, and security assessment of hardware and software.
