Marcos Vieyra joined SANS as CISO-in-Residence for the SANS Technology Institute in April 2017, bringing with him over 20 years of experience working with and managing information technology, with the last 12 dedicated to information security. Prior to joining SANS, he was the CISO for the State of South Carolina, where he led and oversaw the development and implementation of the State's Information Security Program for over 70 agencies in the State's Executive Branch of government, and was a leading member of the Governor's task force on understanding and improving the State's critical infrastructure cyber security posture. Before being selected to lead the State's security efforts, Marcos served as the CISO for the University of South Carolina and was an active supporter, participant, and contributor to EDUCAUSE. Marcos' first lessons in operational security practices came from his service in the United States Air Force, where he was enlisted for seven years.
