Less-Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) LEARN Workshop

Date: Monday, April 23rd and Tuesday, April 24th
George Mason University
Fairfax, VA

The Foreign Language Program Office (FLPO) of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), and the National Cryptologic School (NCS), are pleased to announce the Language Education and Resources Network (LEARN) Less-Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) workshop. The workshop will be held on Monday, April 23rd and Tuesday, April 24th, at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia

This LEARN workshop is timed to follow the Annual Conference of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL), which will be held in Herndon, Virginia, from April 20-22. Select guest presenters from the NCOLCTL conference will be invited to present their talks at the LEARN workshop.

The LEARN workshops provide foreign language professionals from U.S. Government (USG)-affiliated schools and institutions a venue to interact with their colleagues where they can:

  • Share their knowledge, experience, unique perspective, and educational best practices with peers;
  • Discuss and explore issues related to the science and technology of foreign language education;
  • Develop networks of teachers to create communities of practices,
  • Reduce duplication of efforts in areas such as curriculum design, course delivery and assessment.

This LEARN Workshop is open to foreign language professionals including instructors and course developers from any USG-affiliated institution. This workshop encourages presentations relating to the diverse variety of languages taught across the USG. The same presentation should not be presented at both this LEARN workshop and one of the other 2018 LEARN workshops.

Funding for any associated travel expenses will be the responsibility of the attendees’ organization.
