Sergio McKenzie is the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) as well as the Chief of the Cybersecurity Services & Integration Division (CSID). Mr. McKenzie has over 20 years of managerial experience with remarkable success in a number of areas including cybersecurity, network operations, application/web development, system administration, telecommunications, visual information, medical photography, and information assurance/security, to name a few.

In 1995, Sergio was commissioned as an Army officer after graduating with a BS in Computer Science from Polytechnic University in New York City. He served a total of nine years in the Army, being discharged as a Captain from Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he held several managerial and oversight duties and was well known for his steadfast performance and dedication to duty.

Sergio left Walter Reed in 2009 after serving his final four years as the regional CISO, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command. As Branch Head of the Communication Services Branch and Associate Division Manager for the Communication and Security Services Division at GSFC, Sergio was instrumental in an array of improvements in processes and communication infrastructures. From providing executive oversight for the Next Generation Voice (NGV) project, wireless upgrades, network upgrades, and acquisition of funding for replacement of Goddard's critical Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system, Sergio is well known throughout the enterprise as a leader who developed a superior record of accomplishments based on sound managerial and technical expertise and proven leadership skills.

In his current position, Sergio has a myriad of responsibilities leading a team of close to 60 cybersecurity professionals. As the CISO for Goddard since 2016, Sergio established the standup of CSID and became the lead force in creating a solutions mindset and approach for cybersecurity while rebuilding the trust of CSID's customers and partners in both the corporate and mission environments. Among his many honors and distinctions, Sergio is a graduate of the University of Maryland University College with an MS in Technology Management, is certified as a Chief Information Security Manager (CISM), a Distinguished Military Graduate, and a recipient of one of the Army Medical Department's top honor as the Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) Civilian of the Year in 2004. Recently awarded the Robert H. Goddard Exceptional Achievement for Leadership Award, Sergio has been a mentor and counsel to countless staff members, leading people and programs through an array of complex IT success stories. In addition, Sergio is known for his ability to bring together divergent views and devise viable and valuable solutions to any problem at hand.
