Doubletree by Hilton

Theme: English Communication Across Our Diverse Community

The Foreign Language Program Office of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the National Cryptologic School (NCS) are pleased to announce that the English Enhancement LEARN (Language Education and Resources Network) Workshop will be held Tuesday, July 22nd and Wednesday, July 23rd at the Doubletree by Hilton in Silver Spring Maryland. This LEARN workshop has as its goal an understanding of current concerns related to English language issues within the government community. This includes, but is not limited to, difficulties government personnel have in the areas of written clarity, reading comprehension, grammatical usage, pronunciation, and overall language facility. The focus is on how these deficiencies impact job performance. These problematic issues can be applied to personnel with native as well as non-native English language backgrounds. We are seeking to delineate agency-specific problems, receive perspectives from academic and governmental SMEs, and, ultimately to highlight possible solutions or action items that agencies could potentially implement.

Participation in the English Enhancement LEARN is limited to instructors, course developers and other professionals from U.S. government affiliated institutions who deal with English language issues. Presenters will be by invitation only.

Funding for any associated travel expenses will be the responsibility of the attendee’s organization.
