The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Foreign Language Program Office (FLPO),
the National Cryptologic School (NCS), and the Southwest Learning Center (SLC) are pleased to announce that
the First Spanish Language Education and Resource Network (LEARN) Working Group Symposium will be held at
Southwest Learning Center (SLC) San Antonio TX on August 10–12, 2010. The LEARN conferences provide
language professionals with a venue where they can interact with their colleagues and the opportunity to
discuss/explore issues related to the science and technology of foreign language education. The conference
at the SLC is open to all instructors of Spanish from any U.S. Government-affiliated institution. The 2010
Spanish LEARN Steering Committee invites anyone involved in Spanish instruction at a U.S. Government-affiliated
institution to submit a proposal for presentation in the conference.
The 2010 Spanish LEARN Steering Committee invites submission of proposals on the topics relevant to the
theme: Pragmatics in the 21st century: Impact on National Security, Law Enforcement and the Global Economy,
which include, but are not limited to the following sub-themes:
- Curriculum development (design/redesign courseware for Intermediate and advanced level learners)
- Grammar and discourse
- Distance, Blended, and Hybrid Learning
- Disciplinary and area-based approaches to the acquisition of language and culture
- In-country immersion: curriculum and programming
- Copyright and authentic materials
- Global challenges in teacher education
- Creating digital assets for education; New Media, New Possibilities for teaching and learning
- The theory and practice of translation/transcription
- Performance and Assessment of 21st century skills Inter-professional development
- Educational Methodology-to achieve optimum impact
